WheelAir Founder & CEO, Corien Staels, has been crowned winner of AccelerateHER Awards 2019, along with two others!
The awards recognises female business founders leading companies with strong global growth potential in the Scottish technology sector.
About WheelAir
WheelAir is a groundbreaking innovation in wheelchair backrests.
The backrest is designed to support temperature control and comfort with in-built fan technology.
Corien first developed WheelAir at university, after discovering that body temperature regulation can be a significant issue for wheelchair users who have a Spinal Cord Injury. With a Spinal Cord Injury, a person can lose their ability to sweat naturally and maintain their body temperature. As a consequence, they can experience heat fatigue, heatstroke, and other serious health complications.
Corien further realised that temperature regulation could also be an issue for wheelchair users who experience excessive sweating as a result of medication and health conditions. Through the cooling process, WheelAir is designed to support the reduction of heat and moisture build-up.
The company’s mission to remove the physical, emotional & social complications over-heating and over-sweating can cause to wheelchair users.
“It’s amazing to have been part of the awards, to be surrounded by a network of inspirational female entrepreneurs and leaders. I’m immensely proud of WheelAir and looking forward to increasing awareness of the issue of over-heating and over-sweating and how WheelAir can help with it.” – Corien
As a result of winning, Corien will embark on two trade missions to Berlin and Dubai. There she will showcase WheelAir and meet key industry contacts within these new markets.
